hello & happy new year! hope you’re having a wonderful start to 2026 <3

i’ve been travelling around morocco since late december, most notably camping in the middle of the sahara desert for new years eve & day and now exploring the coastal side of the country. my one big intention for this year is to truly live and no longer feel like i’m in survival mode and i feel like i’m already super aligned with that message. i’m on a trip with a group of very lovely and inspiring new friends, it’s been really nice to connect with people on this trip from all walks of life but are all tied together through music and i’m feeling super energised for the year ahead thanks to this gorgeous trip organised by omar. it’s also my birthday in a few days! january is always very exciting for me for various reasons but the 2026 edition feels super charged, in the best way, full of new energy and buzz for the year ahead. i’m really looking forward to getting stuck back into life soon but in the meantime, i’m going to enjoy my final week in morocco, hopefully do some surfing tomorrow and celebrating my birthday with a group of close friends this weekend in marrakech. any music or general recommendations for the city, please send my way.

i don’t really have much to say music wise for this month’s newsletter. i felt like i was quite burned out by the end of the year and not really engaging as much with it, although i had a lot of gigs and mix deadlines to do, but maybe that’s why. by the time it came to my last gig and signing off for the year, i was very much ready to have a break from connecting with music which this trip has definitely allowed me to do. it’s nice to step away from it every now and then to get new perspectives on what you like and what you’re trying to do or say. it’s been nice to reconnect with music on the road trips around morocco the past week as we haven’t had much service so it’s been mostly listening to stuff we already have downloaded and maybe have forgotten about or trying to get through mixes slowly but surely, with the consistent breaks in service. a lot of downtempo & ambient - my faves.

some things i really hope for and excited about for this year is:

working less & connecting with people more
writing and interviewing more, very freely
people and platforms that put community at the forefront
seeing publications cover more outside of the hype cycle
more music substacks focusing on in-depth interviews & scene reports
more independent voices on the platform that aren’t necessarily writers and just sharing what they love for the sake of it <3 i love reading about what people are into and excited by! tell me more!!
starting a podcast series
working on the first print edition of 909 and hoping for more physical media across the board
creating more spaces and opportunities for connection
hosting the first physical 909 events across europe ~ first ones coming up in london & berlin and maybe paris!
start music production lessons with beatrice
inviting more contributors to 909
attending more community-focused events and workshops
making time for non-club music
digging in record shops
returning to the dancefloor in a holistic way
actually sticking to deadlines
seeing people outside of the dancefloor
approaching things with more intention
continuing to slow tf down
saying no

i’m really looking forward to being in amongst it all with friends again soon.

i’ll be travelling around mexico for a few weeks from the 26th january - 10th february and will be living in Paris for a month from the 12th february & would love to connect with people whilst i’m there <3
