lithium radio takeover, gig with ema at club raum, un:send recordings & more
good afternoon from paris where i have been living for the past month and have two more weeks in the city before i finally go back to london. hope the end of this winter season is treating you softly - spring is coming… the clocks are changing soon and spring equinox is right around the corner. i never usually miss a recommendations newsletter but january was missed & that was because for the first few months of this year, i threw myself into life. truly. and this weekend is the first weekend i’ve had to myself so far this year. it’s my favourite kind of weekend too - no plans, turn phone off, catch up on emails, writing, reading & watching, do everything slowly, stay in bed until midday, immerse myself in music & culture that i have been missing out on and take stock of the weeks & months that have just passed. so here i am sitting here taking stock of the previous two months of listening & reading, sharing it with you :)
because i missed the january newsletter, i didn’t have a chance to write about the amazing experience i had playing with ema at the start of the year for femme bass mafia & interfering grounds at club raum. it was the biggest honour to play with someone i’ve looked up to and admired for years, after featuring ema on 909 five years ago. and the party itself was super special, run by two collectives who really put their community to the forefront and nurture it through every decision they make, big or small.
i’ve been following femme bass mafia’s work for years and always inspired by their commitment to their community and nurturing new talent & ultimately making the industry a bit more accessible & inclusive. they’ve been doing this work for over five years now with workshops, programmes and events across europe and i’ve loved seeing them grow! it was really cool to see them focus one of their recent programmes on soundsystem culture and got a group of FLINTA people together to build their own soundsystem which has started being present at events. what an insane opportunity to be able to a part of this workshop and work together with a group of like-minded individuals to create something so special and sacred. i had the biggest fomo missing out on this series.
i also want to highlight the work that interfering grounds are doing. i’ll go into this more in-depth with an interview soon but in the meantime, i wanted to touch on how beautiful their approach to curation is. being able to host a party in a space like club raum is super lucky as they have so many spaces and little nooks that you can play around with. in this case, they turned the expo room into a full-on rave environment that was busy until ema and i stopped playing at 7:30am and one of the other downstairs rooms was turned into a cosy listening den filled with dreamy furnishings, and layered with rugs, sofas and cushions that fostered an environment for deep listening, grounding and connection. a peaceful place where talking was left at a bare minimum so you could really immerse yourself into these beautiful ambient, dub and downtempo sets. a place where snuggle puddles are encouraged - my favourite! it was really lovely to see an event unfold like this on a bigger scale, in one of the most iconic clubs amsterdam has to offer right now. the crowd was super cute & open minded, down for any adventure the dj took them on. it was such a refreshing start to the year and i left feeling really fulfilled, glowing and inspired by how i want to approach my gigs, which parties i choose to play and if i were to put on parties with 909, what i would want them to look like. please go and check out/follow the work they are doing, they’ve hosted some pretty special collaborative parties at club raum and host smaller, intimate events at noord space too.
and shoutout to the cutest motorium crew for having me and caroune play b2b in early february. it was such a fun party, insane music all the way through, still baffled by the fact that it was bartoli’s first ever live set as it was so sick and it was so so nice to be able to play with caroune <3 live recording coming for this soon! :) also went to some other amazing parties including finally seeing the legend that is tom boogizm at le station and finally seeing a strange wedding play at essaim plus a stunning opening set by akira that night <3 there is so much going on in paris at the moment, the city feels really exciting & flourishing :’)
one of the other highlights from the past month was hosting the first physical untitled 909 event in paris! we did a takeover with the newly-launched radio station, lithium radio, which is a cafe & radio station & is so cute! situated in the 20th arrondissement, lithium radio’s programming focuses on slow / non-club music, which is a dream, allowing artists to maybe play something different from what they usually do in the club. we hosted this on a cosy sunday afternoon and programmed it with a focus on spotlighting the city’s vibrant music scene. the first two hours were focused on interviews, hosted by Lola Levant who interviewed new rapper Ryuu and Adélaide de Cerjat who interviewed Vina Konda. the rest of the day was filled with the most beautiful soundtracks curated by souzo, gillielove, olga b. and carin kelly - some of my favourite djs in the city! the community really showed up throughout the day, i was so happy with how everything went and it was really lovely to be able to host a wholesome day of music in the city like this (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) .ᐟ.ᐟ you can find the recordings here. we will be publishing an interview with the lithium radio crew soon plus written write ups of the two interviews in english in the coming months.
admittedly i haven’t spent much time digging for music or going down any rabbit holes - my days have been soundtracked by mixes as i try to catch up with various admin roles. i spent a lot of last week listening to the un:send recordings - the second edition of the australia-based festival run by kia, kasun, ok eg, dylan forbes & many more. i had the biggest fomo watching the festival take place on socials from the other side of the world and have made a pact with myself that i’ll attend the next edition. to be expected, none of the recordings have disappointed. they have been outstanding & a great showcase of both some of the most inspiring local and international artists.
the music i have been digging the past week have been for some of my upcoming gigs which include my first all night long in the ballroom of the newly-launched palais in south london, an ambient party in paris next week which features live drawing and an exciting b2b with forest (again in paris) the week after! i haven’t been playing that much this year so far so i’m excited to get stuck back into it on a regular basis. for the all night long, i have been imagining what a cocktail bar might have sounded like in the 90s/early 00s so i’ve been downloading a lot of downtempo, trip hop, new agey ambient and r&b to play in the earlier hours of the set before the dancefloor is set up and then i’ll move into some minimal/tech house groovers. i can’t wait to play for 7 hours and see how the set unfolds over that period of time ✨ i want it to feel sexy, groovy, moody, smokey… hehe. going to share some of what i’ve found and excited by in the listening session below.

𖦹 for spiralling, naturally on netil radio ~ the past two months have seen a london-based dj practical take over the full two hours and back-to-back with myself and caldera <3 listen back here.
𖦹 released my first ever cassette tape for AIRD Tapes which you can buy here. “Drawing inspiration from the shadowed weight and ritualistic pulse associated with Skull Disco and the darker works of Shackleton, the recording inhabits a grey, psychedelic terrain - moving through dense low-end pressure, ceremonial percussion and disembodied vocal fragments there is a sense of reflection and through that ritual rebirth.”
𖦹 recent interviews with memòri festival & beat connection
𖦹 upcoming dates here :)
